*footnotes: Malinda Tyson Harrison & Charles Tyson Sr - There was a Malinda Tyson born in Alabama around 1834 who was also a slave of Noah’s, I think she was gifted to Noah by his brother Archibald in Alabama and could be Archibald’s daughter. Charles Tyson Sr was her son born in 1851 and was said to be Noah Tyson’s slave, so I don’t know if Charles is Noah’s son or what but I do believe that either Charles or Malinda are Tyson offspring. Until further verification their children aren’t counted in my totals. There’s an 1843 Bill of Sale for a 14 yr old slave woman named Linda, she was gifted from Archibald to Amanda Tyson for $1 who should be Noah’s wife Amanda as neither Archibald nor his other brother John had wives or daughters named Amanda, Noah’s wife would be the only Amanda Tyson I can see. This is why I believe she could’ve been Archibald’s daughter as this was common to gift a slave offspring to another family member to get them off the plantation, very common. Charles Tyson’s death certificate lists father as “Mose Tyson” who I haven’t been able to find in any census or other records, not sure on this one. Caroline Spearman/Christian-Chaney Stewart: There's a Bill of Sale for a Caroline in 1853 found in the book "No Land Only Slaves" Vol 3 Cad H 155 nr 15 Mar 1853/15 Mar 1853 Steward, Henry T. to Tyson, Noah. Bill of Sale. Carroline, f, 14, black, $825. Wit. Battle, Henry J G and Benson, William W. Recorder: Buckner, R T - pg 183 I believe this is Caroline Spearman, she's called a Spearman by all Caddo historians that I've spoke with, even though she's being sold by a Stewart she could've been originally from the Spearmans. Chaney Stewart like Caroline was born in South Carolina, this is where the Spearmans come from, I don't know much about the Stewarts but it appears there's a strong connection between the Tysons, Spearmans, and Stewarts with buying/selling slaves. |
